When we do testing through Ambry Genetics, we’ve always been so impressed, from start to finish, how the lab is so helpful. […] In the future, with all of the testing out there, we could end the genetic odysseys for many families hopefully to come.
Fun Fact

Did you know that the ability to see inside cells got a major boost in 1595 with the invention of the single-lens optical microscope by Janssen? This breakthrough paved the way for exploring the intricate structures within our cells.

It’s really reassuring to families to know that when we get a negative result on exome, it doesn’t mean that we’re done, or that we’re done looking. I can at least tell them that while we didn’t find an answer today, Ambry will keep looking, they’ll automatically update us, and issue an amended report if we find something informative.

Founder of My Faulty Gene Center
Since my mutation was identified, eight family members have also tested positive for the same mutation. But do you know what? We have had no more deaths in our family due to cancer since then.

Imagine this: Once microscopes were all the rage among researchers, Robert Hooke rocked the scientific scene in 1665 by coining the term “cell” to describe the tiny building blocks of life.
Dr. Noel Boyd

Genetic testing doesn’t just lead to bad news. Patients can either be relieved that they test negative, or they can be relieved that they have an answer and can move forward with earlier intervention… When patients are given hope in a situation…that makes a huge difference.

I appreciate that Ambry leaves no stone left unturned. They use many lines of evidence when classifying variants and perform extra steps when needed…
Fun Fact
#chromosome
The credit for coining the term “chromosome” goes to German anatomist and anthropologist Heinrich Wilhelm Gottfried von Waldeyer-Hartz. In 1888, Waldeyer introduced the term “chromosome” to describe the thread-like structures observed in the nucleus of cells.

We continue to invest in active research and development programs that will drive the next innovations in testing services.
Fun Fact
#genome
After Darwin’s groundbreaking “On the Origin of Species” in 1859, Gregor Mendel stepped in with the fundamental laws of inheritance in 1865. This paved the way for the revelation that certain traits are passed down through genes. Fast forward to 1910, when Thomas Hunt Morgan’s experiments uncovered the link between genes and specific physical traits, pinpointing their location on chromosomes.

MS, CGC
In an ideal state, geneticists, lab technicians, bioinformaticians, researchers, providers and patients all work together to incorporate complex data and human stories. Sometimes it takes a village.
